Home based remedies for dandruff, that works!


Dandruff is condition in which white scales of dead skin are shed by the scalp. The main causes of dandruff are impairment of general health, development of a toxic condition mainly due to taking of wrong foods, constipation, and a low vitality due to infectious diseases.

Consider the following home base remedies for dandruff:

a) Just mix 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar with 2 cups of water to make a hair rinse that is a brilliant home remedy for dandruff. You may need more or less of this mixture, depending on the length and thickness of your hair. In fact, you can take an empty gallon jug, preferably plastic, that has a handle which will enable you to grip it while in the shower. You can mix 1/3 of a cup of apple cider vinegar into a quart of water, and keep this jug in your shower so it is ready for you to use. Pour the mixture on your head, and with your fingertips, massage it in gently. Do not rinse! And no, your hair will not smell like vinegar after it dries. It will be soft, easy to manage and most importantly, dandruff free.

b) One teaspoon of lime can do wonder in removing dandruff from hair. It regenerates the lost bounce in hair and prevents further stickiness to set in. You need to mix lime juice one tea spoon while washing your hair, and you need to select a mild herbal shampoo to wash your hair.

c) The most important point in the treatment of dandruff is to keep the hair and scalp clean so as to decrease the accumulation of dead cells. The hair should be brushed daily to improve the circulation and remove any flakiness. The most effective way to brush the hair is to bend forward from the waist with the head down towards the ground and brush from the nape of the neck towards the top of the head. Massage the scalp daily using one-finger tips and working systematically over the head. This should be done just before or after brushing the hair. Like brushing, this stimulates the circulation, dislodges dirt and dandruff and helps in the hair growth.

d) Add six spoonfuls water, two spoonfuls pure vinegar and apply it on the scalp with cotton wool before going to bed.

e) Wash the hair with whey, gram flour and myrobalan soaked in water.

f) Meats, sugar, white flour, strong tea or coffee, condiments, pickles, refined and processed foods should all be avoided.

Unwind yourself among the picturesque hills of Ooty.

Known as the queen of the hills in South India, Ooty is a hot spot hill station that is known for its pleasurable climate, tea plantations, fruit orchards and scenic hills of the Nilgiris. By Rail
The difficult terrain of Nilgiri hills has been triumphed over by laying a pleasant narrow gauge rail track till Mettupalayam and Coonoor. The railway station of Ooty is merely 2 km away from the city center. The toy train journey begins from Mettupalayam and coming via Coonoor it reaches Ooty. The major broad gauge junction is located at Coimbatore which is connected to almost all the major cities. However, the nearest broad gauge is situated at Mettupalayam.

By Bus
With well laid and maintained roads Ooty is well connected with all most all south Indian cities by bus. There are regular bus services from Mysore, Bangalore, Madurai, and Kanyakumari and also from many cities in Kerala. State owned and private vehicles ply on this route. Many tourist services providers offer package trips to Ooty from many south Indian cities. These will charge about Rs 4 per km.

Best time to visit!

The best time to visit Ooty is November and March, however you can also visit Ooty during April-June, but during this period the hill station remains a bit crowded.

Vivekananda Rock, so called because Swami Vivekananda used to meditate here. Built in 1970, the memorial is a blend of all the styles of Indian architecture. A statue of Vivekananda is installed here.

Gandhi Memorial - There is a memorial mandap to the Father of the Nation Mahtama Gandhi, erected where his ashes were kept for public homage before being immersed at the meeting point of the seas. There is an architectural glare in the construction that it has been so designed that the rays of the sunfall on the same spot where the urn was kept exactly.

Government Museum - Located near the Beach Road, this museum has a collection of bronze articles, tribal objects, wood carvings and zoological and botanical specimens.

Vivekananda Kendra - Covering an area of 100 acres, this institute has been established to promote the messages and philosophy of Swami Vivekananda. Now its a spiritual retreat and a major center of service to humanity.

Discover the peaceful Pondicherry.

Pondicherry also known as puducherry, is a Union Territory which is located on the eastern side of Indian mainland. Being a former French colony Pondicherry shows a strong influence of yesteryears. One can witness a large number of religions thriving in small yet beautiful part of India. Hinduism always had a strong hold in Pondicherry. And with time Islam and Christianity also found home in Pondicherry and today are as major as Hinduism.

Located just 160 Km south of Chennai and close to most states of South India, Pondicherry today is an merger of people from all these states. And with them came all the languages of these states. Here you will find many languages being spoken like Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam, Tamil and French. So is the culture different. Auroville

Located 10 kms north of Pondicherry town, Auroville is visualized as a universal town, where people from different nationalities, faiths and beliefs, can live in peace and harmony.

The construction of this 'universal town' was started in 1968 under the counseling of the mother, a paries- Born painter-musician who become Sri Aurobindo's disciple and close companion from 1924 till his death in 1950. The development of this Utopia is still in progress. Several countries have offered to set up permanent pavilions, reflecting the culture and ethos of their countries.

Pondicherry Museum

The Pondicherry museum is also a big draw for tourists. The museum has a part dedicated to archaeological findings of the roman settlement from Arikamedu and an impressive sculpture gallery. The museum has a French division as well where one can trace the history of this colony. There are many exhibits in this section; one popular exhibition is a four-post bed that was used by the famous French Viceroy, Dupleix. Besides history one can also enjoy watching their snail shell’s amazing collection. The snail shells exhibited are all from Pondicherry.

Sacred Heart Church

There are several large churches and cathedrals around the town, including the striking brown and white sacred Heart Church on South Boulevard. Nearby are the peaceful, extensive Botanical Gardens, opened in 1740.

Botanical Garden

Established by C.S perrotet in 1826, it preserves a large assortment of exotic species of plants from all over India and abroad.

Mansion of Ananda

Rangapillai Built in 1773, this mansion is a fine specimen of indo - French architecture. Ananda Rangapillai was the courtier of Joseph francois dupleix , the governor. The dairy which Rangapillai maintained between 1736 - 60 is a book of great value as a source of information on the history of Pondicherry and the French in India.

The nearest airport to Pondicherry is Chennai, 135 km away from the city.

By rail

Though Ponidcherry is on the rail map journey by train to and from Ponidcherry is not very popular. Villupuram is the nearest junction, it is fairly well connected to places like Chennai, Madurai and Trichy.

By road

Ponidcherry is well connected to all districts and major towns of various states like Tamilnadu, Karnataka, Kerala and Andra Pradesh. Ponidcherry is best accessible by road, either by bus or by taxi. There are regular buses, almost every 15 minutes in the day from Chennai’s new bus stand in Koyembedu.

Experience the splendid Kodaikanal

Located in the folds of the Palani hills, Kodaikanal is a popular and quiet hill station with forested slopes, stupendous rocks, captivating waterfalls and a lovely lake. Situated at an altitude of about 2,133 m above sea level, this hill town is well known its educational institutions that have earned international repute.

The most spectacular scene this hill station has to offer unravels itself once in every 12 years when the blue-violet 'Kurinji' flowers blossom up to cover its slopes like a velvet carpet. The Lake
A impressive star-shaped lake glitters like a jewel amidst the emerald green wooded slopes. This 24 hectare lake is skirted by 5 Kms long, black tapped road is focal point of Kodai, This lake was created in 1863 by Sir Vere Hendry Levinge, who was the collector of Madurai, retired and settled in Kodai.

Dolphin's Nose
Situated about 8 km from the Berijam Lake is the Dolphin's Nose, a flat projecting rock from where one can take a breathtaking view of the widening gorge below.

Coaker's Walk
Coaker's Walk derives the name from Lt. Coaker, who prepared the map of Kodai and it is about a kilometre from the lake, which runs along a steep slope on the southern side of the Kodai. Some of the best views of the plains can be seen from here.

Bear Shola Falls
An ideal picnic spot located 1.6-km from the lake, which can be by a picturesque, rugged hill path. Bears once used to drink water above the falls.

Bryant Park
Another popular spot of the hill station is the Bryant Park, situated on the eastern side of Kodaikanal Lake. It is essentially a botanical garden, named after its founder, Mr. Bryant, a British Army Officer. Here, you will find a blooming growth of mixed flower species, including roses and lilies. The park also serves as the venue of a horticulture show, organized every may.

Madurai Airport is the nearest air link from Kodaikanal, situated at a distance of approximately 120 km.

By Road
Kodaikanal is connected by road with Chennai (520km), Ooty (264km), Trichy (197km), Coimbatore (175km), Kumili (160km), and Madurai (120km). There are regular bus services from Madurai, Palani, Kodaikanal Road, Theni, Dindigul, Tiruchirapalli, Kumuli (Thekkady) and Coimbatore. For local transport, taxis and luxury buses are available for local transportation. There are no auto-rickshaws in Kodaikanal.

By Rail
There are a number of trains that you can take from all major metropolitan cities of India to reach Kodaikanal. From Chennai, you can take Nagarcoil Express or daily Pandain express while tourists from Delhi can board at Navyug Express that leads to Kodaikanal Road Station.
