Unwind yourself among the picturesque hills of Ooty.

Known as the queen of the hills in South India, Ooty is a hot spot hill station that is known for its pleasurable climate, tea plantations, fruit orchards and scenic hills of the Nilgiris. The weather is quite pleasant at a mean of 15-20 C around the year, dropping to lows of 0 C during winter. The landscape is characterized by rolling hills covered with thick vegetation, smaller hills and plateaus covered with tea gardens, and eucalyptus trees.

Ooty nestles in an amphitheater created by four majestic hills: Dodabetta, Snow don, Elk hill, and Club Hill. These hills are a part of the Nilgiri ranges that are really the meeting point for the Western and the Eastern Ghats.

Botanical Garden: Ooty travel is incomplete without a visit to the botanical garden and the lake which has captivated tourists for generations. The Garden has attracted many a film makers for film shootings here and has been one of the most common sites in many movies.

Lake: A popular picnic spot and an important tourist attraction in Ooty, the lake offers boating in various kinds of boats. A children's park with a Toy Train, Deer Park and Mini Garden are some other features at this site.

Doddabetta Peak: The Dodabetta Peak stands at an altitude of 2,623 meters. It is the highest point in the district, making it possibly the best vantage point around Ooty. It is merely 10km from Ooty so you can simply grab your camera and head straight to the peak, and click amazing pictures of he valley below.

Pykara Falls: Located about 19 km from Ooty, the picturesque Pykara Falls and its surroundings constitute some breathtaking scenery.

Shopping!

A flock of shops, largely small scale, sell a variety of products ranging from designer clothes to fresh vegetables to home made chocolates and even horses (if you are lucky). Year after year, it draws tourists, adventure enthusiasts, honeymooners and the film industry like bees to nectar. The commercial road forms the main business lane for the town and 30% of the business income via shopping comes from this long lane.

How to reach!

By Air
The hill station of Ooty itself doesn't have an airport. The nearest airport to Ooty is situated at Coimbatore which is at about a distance of about 90 km from Ooty.

By Rail
The difficult terrain of Nilgiri hills has been triumphed over by laying a pleasant narrow gauge rail track till Mettupalayam and Coonoor. The railway station of Ooty is merely 2 km away from the city center. The toy train journey begins from Mettupalayam and coming via Coonoor it reaches Ooty. The major broad gauge junction is located at Coimbatore which is connected to almost all the major cities. However, the nearest broad gauge is situated at Mettupalayam.

By Bus
With well laid and maintained roads Ooty is well connected with all most all south Indian cities by bus. There are regular bus services from Mysore, Bangalore, Madurai, and Kanyakumari and also from many cities in Kerala. State owned and private vehicles ply on this route. Many tourist services providers offer package trips to Ooty from many south Indian cities. These will charge about Rs 4 per km.

Best time to visit!

The best time to visit Ooty is November and March, however you can also visit Ooty during April-June, but during this period the hill station remains a bit crowded.
